Coordinating machine schedules and material flows ensures customer orders ship on time from manufacturing plants. Production Planners use ERP software and production data to forecast capacity needs and prioritize jobs. This role solves the problem of balancing efficiency with on-time deliveries in a fast-paced packaging environment.
Portco Packaging creates custom packaging solutions for various industries. Located in Toppenish, WA, the company manufactures flexible packaging with multiple production lines. They focus on supplying clients in regional markets with efficient, high-quality materials.
Planners schedule all machines based on customer demand, monitor workflow with operations teams, and coordinate materials using vendor inputs. They create production jobs from routing plans and track progress in systems like MRP software. Interactions include collaborating with sales for promise dates and vendors for deliverability. A common challenge is resolving scheduling conflicts like machine downtime affecting routing.

Responsibilities
- Schedule machines to optimize production efficiency and meet delivery targets
- Work with operations to understand workflow and machine capabilities
- Participate in production schedule development and performance reporting
- Plan production routing and create production jobs
- Coordinate material acquisition and delivery for production
- Provide accurate promise dates to sales and track production progress
- Identify and correct root causes of scheduling issues
Requirements
- Five years of production and scheduling experience in manufacturing
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to communicate effectively with teams and vendors
