Communities connect via reliable fiber internet through installations and repairs maintaining high-speed links for homes and businesses. This role troubleshoots connectivity issues, splicing cables in aerial and underground environments using bucket trucks.

Technicians splice fiber optic cables outdoors, update schematics in spreadsheets, perform FTTH installations with service drops, repair VoIP services, and operate bucket trucks complying with DOT/OSHA standards like 32ft ladders. They maintain safety in fluctuating temperatures, lift up to 80lbs, and participate in on-call rotations including weekends. Interactions include customer consultations; one challenge involves adapting schedules for on-call needs while operating 300lb weight-limited trucks independently.

Base pay with quarterly bonuses tied to performance. Positions support field operations in Topeka and NE Kansas regions without relocation eligibility. Responsibilities

  • Perform core fiber network duties including splicing fiber optic cables
  • Maintain knowledge of aerial and underground infrastructure
  • Update splicing schematics and spreadsheets
  • Execute end-to-end customer installations and repairs
  • Install service drops from terminal to homes/businesses
  • Troubleshoot customer connectivity issues
  • Install and troubleshoot VoIP services
  • Provide outstanding customer service
  • Maintain safety and operational compliance
  • Adhere to DOT and OSHA standards

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience in telecommunications as splicing or installation technician
  • Valid driver’s license with no restrictions
  • Successful DOT physical
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs
  • Willingness to work in underground and aerial environments
  • Flexible schedule including Saturdays and Sundays
  • General knowledge of internet, wireless, phone systems preferred
