Job Description

This seasonal role leads camp activities for children to promote fun and skill development. Counselors supervise games, crafts, and sports to enhance campers' experiences aged 1st to 8th grade. The job fosters leadership and creativity, contributing to positive growth in a structured outdoor setting.

Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City runs J Camp, accredited by the American Camp Association. Serving boys and girls in weekly sessions from May to August, the center provides activities like swimming, archery, and cultural programming, licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Responsibilities include overseeing camper groups, implementing schedules with crafts and sports, maintaining attendance records, and ensuring safety at pools and field trips. Tools like archery bows, swimming pools, and activity kits are used, interacting with campers, junior counselors, and directors. A major challenge involves managing 20-30 campers' behaviors in a fast-paced environment with multiple age groups and supervision needs during 7am-6pm shifts.

Salary ranges from $14-$18 per hour based on qualifications and age requirements of 16-21+. Position at an unspecified camp site with full or part-time summer hours plus orientation from May 26-29. Benefits include job skill development in problem-solving and negotiating, plus various positions with bonuses up to $250 for early commitment based on worked hours.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or older for Senior Counselors (must be 18)
  • Entering 11th-12th grade for Junior Counselors (minimum 16)
  • Valid driver's license for Ma'asim Tovim Counselors
  • Clean driving record for Ma'asim Tovim positions
  • Archery certification or willingness to obtain for Archery Specialist
  • 19 years or older for Archery and Para-educators
  • 21 years or older for Culinary Camp Chef
  • Prefer experience in education or special needs for Para-educators
  • Ability to work outside and with children
