Job Description
Children's summer education faces interruptions during school breaks, but this role tackles that by directing hands-on creative camps for kindergarten through eighth-grade students. Directors operate dynamic in-person locations, blending daily program leadership with culture-building to produce joyful, rare learning experiences. Families and communities in underserved areas gain access to these free or low-cost opportunities featuring innovation-focused curricula.
Galileo Learning provides educational programs annually to over 60,000 kids through 75 summer day camps nationwide. The company offers programs for kindergarten through eighth-grade students, partnering with local schools and districts. Galileo X delivers programming at no cost to families in underserved communities, expanding creativity among young innovators.
Directors work from February through September 2026, overseeing preseason planning including up to 15 hours weekly of remote training, Bay Area retreats, and marketing events with evenings or weekends. During camp season from June through August, they lead on-site operations for 40 plus hours weekly, such as staffing 10 to 40 educators, managing schedules and payroll, and training on curriculum standards. Directors model the Galileo Innovation Approach to encourage problem-solving, facilitate parent communications, and build inclusive environments in camp spaces. They travel frequently across up to 6 camp locations within their region to support coverage, stepping in with little notice, which tests adaptability in managing multiple priorities and balancing team needs with safety protocols.
Compensation starts at $23 hourly for preseason tasks, shifts to $1,450 weekly during camp season, and includes a bonus of $1 per camper-week enrollment. Positions involve part-time remote work initially, transitioning to full-time on-site from June through August with hours typically 45 weekly including shifts between 7 am and 6 pm. Locations include the East Bay Marin region with regional travel required. Benefits feature free camp weeks for children or two giftable weeks, a 15 percent friends and family discount, and priority nominee status for financial assistance programs.
