Job Description

This role manages newborn care in Level 1 nurseries, including admissions and discharges with neonatology supervision. Newborns benefit from assessments that address maternal health impacts in postpartum units. Practitioners use stethoscopes, thermometers, and EMR systems to document exams and treatments.

Regional Neonatal Associates employs over 25 nurse practitioners through University Physicians' Association to cover nurseries. The group partners with University of Tennessee Medical Center for 5200 deliveries annually. Focus includes teaching residents and preceptors in newborn processes.

Practitioners round on infants using labs and X-rays for interpretations, instructing students on exams. They collaborate with physicians on higher-level cares, communicating via huddles with teams. Shifts span 10 hours with half-days, rotating holidays and weekends in Knoxville facilities. One challenge is adapting to daily census variations up to 30.

Full-time preferred with benefits like medical, dental, vision, retirement, malpractice, CME for 6 weeks. Self-scheduling options; licensure required in Tennessee. NRP certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Daily rounds on newborns including admissions and discharges
  • Management of newborns requiring a higher level of care
  • Interpretation of labs, radiologic studies
  • Understand how maternal health, disease processes, and treatments affect the newborn
  • Instructing Medical Residents, Physician Assistant students and Medical Students
  • Option for precepting other nurse practitioner students

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Licensure and Certification to be in good standing with the State Board
  • NRP Certified or agreement to become certified
  • Newborn care experience preferred
