The role centers on guiding future elementary teachers through their student teaching placements, ensuring they develop skills in classroom management and pedagogy. Supervisors meet with candidates and mentors to set expectations, which directly prepares teacher candidates for real-world classrooms. It offers placements in the Grand Forks area, where supervisors must reside to conduct in-person visits.
Supervisors conduct four observations per student teacher per semester, using evaluation forms to assess progress alongside cooperating teachers. They review weekly journal reflections and offer feedback via email or phone conversations. Interactions include communicating between student teachers, cooperating teachers, and the Director of Teacher Education regarding any challenges. Supervisors coach candidates on assertive communication and reflection, and they must handle up to nine placements across Grand Forks sites.
The position pays $400 per student annually, with amounts varying based on assignment volume and hours worked per week. It allows 100% remote work within the Grand Forks area. Supervisors must complete a criminal history background check and be located in Grand Forks. The role includes eligibility for overtime and requires in-person observation visits to placements.
Responsibilities
- Meet with assigned student teachers and cooperating teachers to establish expectations
- Complete at least four observations of each student teacher
- Collaborate with cooperating teacher to complete four student teaching evaluations
- Review and offer feedback on student teachers' weekly journal reflections
- Be available for student teachers to contact for advice or to share successes
- Facilitate professional communication between student teacher and cooperating teacher
- Coach student teacher on assertive collaborations and reflective communications
Requirements
- Master's degree or 5 years of teaching experience in elementary education content areas
- Located in Grand Forks, ND
- Willing to make in-person visits within Grand Forks area
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check
