Guest services coordinators manage residential facilities for homeless families, ensuring needs are met, safety maintained, and housing stability prioritized through trauma-informed practices.
Volunteers of America Colorado delivers human services including shelters, nutrition, and housing to over 140,000 vulnerable Coloradoans annually via 50+ programs.
Coordinators manage shifts at family shelters like Theodora Family Hotel, possess knowledge of referral processes and resources, document interactions in HMIS, maintain physical safety by de-escalating conflicts, oversee maintenance like linen supply, coordinate activities, serve as resources for teams, train staff on best practices, mentor junior personnel, cover on-call, and participate in scheduling.
The full-time or part-time roles offer $20 per hour plus $1 shift differential for overnights, with eligibility for vacation, sick time, 12 holidays, pension, health/dental/vision, EAP, tuition assistance.
Responsibilities
- Manage residential facility during shifts for families and programs
- Ensure guest voices inform programming
- Possess in-depth knowledge of program requirements, referral processes, best practices
- Support housing stability with trauma-informed, harm reduction, motivational interviewing
- Document interactions, eligibility, demographics timely in Service Point and HMIS
- Maintain boundaries, confidentiality, participate effectively in teams
- Maintain guest safety, milieu management, address conflicts, contact emergency services
- Support teams, analyze problems, stay abreast of issues
- Oversee and participate in house maintenance, enforce rules
- Serve as coordinator for projects, supervise volunteers
- Perform front desk duties: phones, messages, donations, mail, bus passes
- Serve as mentor for junior staff, train on best practices
- Participate in on-call rotation
- Provide coverage at other facilities
- Participate in staff scheduling during hours
- Attend meetings, participate equally
- Monitor activities, participate in on-call, notify maintenance, handle guest discharges
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in related area or equivalent experience
- One year direct human service experience
- Willing to obtain first aid, AED, CPR certifications
- Criminal and civil background checks within 30 days
- Good organizational and planning skills
- Experience with chronic homelessness, mental health, residential case management preferred
