Responsibilities

  • Meet and screen applicants for driver's licenses and permits
  • Review applications and determine eligibility based on state regulations
  • Administer written, visual, and oral tests including road skills examinations
  • Use systems like NDR, PDPS, CDLIS, and SAVE to verify applicant information
  • Collect fees, prepare receipts, and maintain accurate financial records
  • Provide guidance on driver license laws, procedures, and services
  • Inspect vehicles for road tests and verify financial responsibility
  • Certify drivers as risks or recommend unlicensing unsafe drivers
  • Assist with administrative hearings and provide testimony on violations

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year of general office, volunteer, or customer service experience
  • Valid state driver's license or approved waiver
  • EPA certification as Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) within 6 months
  • Texas driver's license within 90 days if out-of-state or 30 days if relocating within state
