License specialists issue driver's licenses and handle permit applications to ensure individuals meet state regulations for safe driving. Responsibilities
- Meet and screen applicants for driver's licenses and permits
- Review applications and determine eligibility based on state regulations
- Administer written, visual, and oral tests including road skills examinations
- Use systems like NDR, PDPS, CDLIS, and SAVE to verify applicant information
- Collect fees, prepare receipts, and maintain accurate financial records
- Provide guidance on driver license laws, procedures, and services
- Inspect vehicles for road tests and verify financial responsibility
- Certify drivers as risks or recommend unlicensing unsafe drivers
- Assist with administrative hearings and provide testimony on violations
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of general office, volunteer, or customer service experience
- Valid state driver's license or approved waiver
- EPA certification as Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) within 6 months
- Texas driver's license within 90 days if out-of-state or 30 days if relocating within state
