Job Description

This role leads subject matter expertise in civil engineering for infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. It involves reviewing engineering plans, design specifications, and construction inspections to meet safety and quality standards. The position solves challenges in a business climate by providing direction for engineering practices and innovations.

Typical activities include performing engineering reviews of permit applications, contracts, and integrated management plans, using tools like MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS. Work involves leading teams for complex civil projects, overseeing budgets, monitoring expenses, and supervising subcontractors. Interactions occur with mid-level to senior team members, regulatory agencies, clients, subcontractors, and industry groups, following QA/QC procedures. One challenge is adapting to varied schedules and hours for project needs, including travel.

Compensation ranges from $157,200 to $267,700 annually. The role operates in an office setting with occasional travel. Work schedule includes full-time hours, sometimes requiring flexibility for evenings or weekends. Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the civil engineering discipline and function
  • Perform engineering review of permit applications, engineering design plans and specifications, standby plans and engineering contracts, integrated management plans, and periodic construction inspections
  • Lead larger-scale more complex civil engineering projects
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings
  • Support the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Civil Engineering work
  • Serve as one of the engineering discipline's lead representatives/liaison to a variety of external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities
  • Develop and inform proposal and project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics
  • Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents that result in sound engineering and regulatory conclusions
  • Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients
  • Develop a client base for providing high level civil engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities, and cross-selling of other WSP capabilities
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development
  • Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff
  • Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline
  • 12+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues
  • Advanced proficiency with infrastructure design
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements
  • Advanced proficiency with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills
  • Tactical lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization
  • Advanced proficiency with office automation, discipline-specific design software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Master's Degree in Engineering preferred
