Job Description

Peer support technicians use personal recovery experiences to guide adults, children, and families toward active community participation and personal growth. They draw on shared experiences to validate client struggles, offer encouragement, and foster responsibility in recovery. Practical assistance includes mentoring, advocacy, coordination of medical care, dental health, legal services, financial supports like housing subsidies, money management, and transportation. Peer specialists connect clients with community resources, supervise daily living needs, and provide side-by-side individualized support.

Daily tasks involve providing group and individual peer counseling, strength-based support, problem-solving, and direct assistance with daily necessities. Work occurs in group homes, communities, and with transportation between locations. Interaction happens with PACT team members, clients, families, and community providers. Resources include peer support programs, training materials, and personal recovery stories. A key constraint is obtaining Peer Support Specialist Case Manager certification within 6 months, requiring 40 hours of training, assessment, and passing a test.

Peer support technicians earn $17.00 to $18.86 per hour, increasing to $20.00 to $22.08 upon training completion. The role is based in Kalispell, Montana, with potential travel to other Montana communities. Responsibilities

  • Utilize personal recovery experience to support clients in all recovery aspects
  • Provide peer counseling and support from a strengths-based perspective
  • Offer mentoring, advocacy, coordination, side-by-side support, problem-solving, and direct assistance
  • Help clients obtain necessities like medical and dental care, legal services, financial supports, housing subsidies, and transportation

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or HSE
  • Past employment experience
  • Experience with psychosis during youth preferred but not required
  • Two years of active participation in mental health self-help, peer support, or peer advocacy programs
  • Ability to disclose recovery story when appropriate
  • Peer Support Specialist Case Manager certification required within 6 months
  • Understanding of community resources
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and empathy for mental health service participants
