University of Iowa Health Care seeks a hemodialysis technician for the Outpatient Clinic to operate dialysate delivery systems and monitor treatments ensuring patient safety during renal dialysis. The technician assembles, tests, sterilizes dialysis equipment, draws blood for analysis of sodium, potassium, hematocrit, and tests dialysate conductivity. They prepare individualized dialysate concentrations as prescribed by physicians, conduct infection and quality control monitoring per unit policy, and maintain clinic supplies. Attending conferences and reading literature keeps techniques updated, covering dialysis units in Johnson County with 10-hour shifts including Saturdays and variable start times.

Technicians sterilize and prepare a variety of dialysis equipment like hemodialysis machines and dialyzers. They manage patient dialysis by overseeing treatment parameters, adjusting flow rates as needed, and ensuring adequacy through blood analyses. Monitoring includes checking dialysate concentrates for pH and conductivity to prevent complications. Quality control involves documenting infection prevention measures and adhering to federal CMS guidelines for technician certification. Supplies are replenished in the clinic, and equipment is cleaned and maintained. The technician collaborates with nephrologists and nurses, attending orientations within three months. A key challenge involves coordinating Saturday schedules for two out of four weeks, balancing holiday coverage, and managing emergency dialysis adaptations.
The full-time role offers 100% schedule amounting to 40 hours per week with Monday-Saturday variable start times, 10-hour shifts, including two Saturdays per pay period, holidays as needed, and no call. Compensation follows the Merit Pay Plan with benefits including paid vacation, sick leave, health, dental, life, and disability insurance, plus retirement contributions at Main University Campus Iowa City. The position requires a driver's license meeting UI Fleet Safety Standards for potential inter-unit support.

Requirements
- One year experience as certified nursing assistant, dialysis technician or clinical technician involving patient care and monitoring
- Or completion of one year health science related training program
- Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician certification within 18 months from hire
- Successful departmental orientation/training within 3 months
- Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
