Job Description
University of Iowa Health Care seeks a licensed practical nurse for Centres Occupational Health Clinics to deliver preventive care and workplace health standards for faculty, staff, and students, ensuring access to follow-up services through comprehensive nursing. Nurses in less complex scenarios direct assigned personnel under registered nurse supervision, while collaborating on care plans for patient needs. It emphasizes evidence-based practice via teamwork, communication, and multidisciplinary approaches for safe, healthy workplaces. The role involves variable schedules from 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with 15% travel to surrounding clinics based on clinical needs.
University of Iowa Health Care serves as Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center. More than 12,000 employees, students, and volunteers provide quality health care. The Occupational Health Clinics support employee well-being, promoting personal and professional growth in a collaborative environment.
Nurses provide care under registered nurse direction, participating in care plans and therapeutic programs. They administer routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications without high judgment, documented in EPIC. Clinics operate without weekends, holidays, or on-call. Phlebotomy, specimen handling, and customer service interactions occur, floating to multiple locations. Duties include assisting with patient examinations via medical jargon and histories, recording medication and allergy details, and immunizations. They maintain accurate records and investigate questions using Laboratory Information Systems, reporting variances. Responses to inquiries require minimal guidance. Medical terminology and public contact experience enhance performance. A challenge involves managing travel to various clinics using a driver's license compliant with UI Fleet Safety Standards.
The 70% schedule equates to 28 hours per week from Monday to Friday, 7 am to 5 pm, with 15% travel but no weekends, holidays, or on-call. Salary ranges from $31,190.54 to $46,464.26 based on experience. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, health insurance including dental and life options, disability coverage, generous retirement contributions, free on-site parking, and university-paid life insurance. The position requires Iowa Board of Nursing licensure, Basic Cardiac Life Support, and continued education maintenance.
