Job Description

This role assists in animal care at veterinary clinics, handling restraint and diagnostics for small animals. Assistants support surgeries and client communication, addressing pet health needs in a fast-paced setting. The position contributes to comprehensive care including dentistry, radiology, and ultrasonography.

Alliance Animal Health operates Newton Animal Clinic and a sister clinic in Bondurant, Iowa, as AAHA-certified multi-doctor small animal practices. Services include preventative care, surgery, urgent care, dentistry, diagnostics, boarding, and imaging.

Assistants restrain pets, triage patients, collect lab samples, perform diagnostic imaging, manage hospitalized cases, administer medications. They communicate treatment plans, prepare for surgery, assist surgically, handle anesthesia. Duties include processing radiographs, ultrasounds, endoscopies. Exposure to odors, noises, bites, and diseases; must withstand unpleasant conditions.

This position is full-time primarily at Newton location with occasional Bondurant shifts. Requirements

  • 1-year experience preferred but not required
  • Compassionate, calm, team player, multi-tasker, strong communicator
  • Ability to restrain pets
  • Proficient in sample collection, medical histories, laboratory tests, radiographs, anesthesia monitoring
