Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulates environmental standards across the state, overseeing permits for industrial operations and partnering with federal agencies like EPA. The agency employs thousands in enforcement roles, focusing on emissions, waste management, and water quality.

Attorneys lead the division, providing legal counsel on complex matters; testify before committees and courts; coordinate with attorneys general; monitor regulatory changes; manage division budgets and strategic planning; oversee staff development including performance reviews and training curriculum; and serve as records management contacts for retention and destruction. They handle contested permitting hearings using platforms like Administrative Procedures Act requirements, with expectations of producing filings, participating in hearings, and preparing agenda items.

Compensation ranges from $12,472 to $13,820.88 monthly. This full-time position is based in Austin, Texas, requiring standard business hours 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, with optional benefits including a 401(k), insurance packages, paid holidays, leave, and professional development. Excludes overtime.

Requirements

  • 10+ years preparing filings and participating in hearings
