This role supports safe, clean communities by accurately handling materials for refuse truck bodies production. Handlers load and unload trucks using tow motors, inspect incoming parts for damage, and deliver components like fixtures and tooling to assembly lines. They maintain inventory with handheld scanners, ensuring production never halts due to shortages. Precise stock replenishment reduces waste and boosts efficiency in manufacturing operations.
Oshkosh Corporation designs and manufactures refuse truck bodies through its McNeilus division, producing front load, rear load, and automated side load trucks. The company serves waste collection fleets across industries, focusing on durable equipment for refuse handling.
Daily tasks include operating material handling equipment such as tow motors and overhead cranes, picking parts and raw materials via Handheld Scanner or Computer Terminal, and placing stock in assigned storage areas. Handlers receive loads into JD Edwards Enterprise One system, unload and load trucks, and inspect materials upon receipt. They interact with production teams and external vendors, mentoring new employees on processes and facility layout. One challenge involves working outdoors for extended periods in varying weather while maintaining compliance with 6S standards.
Pay ranges from $19 to $25.48 per hour, with work at an operations facility in Oshkosh, Wisconsin area. Shifts vary but require regular attendance, no regular weekends or holidays mentioned. Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of material movement including stock replenishing systems for work areas
- Pick parts, raw materials, delivering to point of use
- Unload and load trucks using material handling equipment
- Accept loads and receive materials into the system
- Complete accurate inventory counts
- Inspect materials upon receipt to ensure conformity and absence of damage
- Place stock into assigned storage areas
- Record location and quantity via Handheld Scanner or Computer Terminal
- Mentor and train new team members on processes and facility layout
- Maintain positive working attitude and environment
- Maintain safe and clean work environment in compliance with procedures and 6S standards
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
- Ability to perform basic math including addition and subtraction
- Ability to read and understand date codes, BOLs, pallet tickets, etc.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Previous experience with MS Windows, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel preferred
- Previous experience operating a tow motor or forklift preferred
- Six months or more of material handling experience in manufacturing preferred
- Experience with JD Edwards Enterprise One or another Enterprise Resource System preferred
- Shipping and receiving experience in a warehouse environment preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills preferred
- Experience operating an overhead bridge crane or jib crane preferred
