This job enhances bakery sales by preparing fresh pastries that meet customer expectations for quality and variety. Chefs maintain product levels and train others in mixing, baking, and decorating techniques to uphold high standards in grocery store environments.
Harmons runs grocery stores in Utah and nearby states, emphasizing fresh baked goods and perishable items. The company delivers bakery products alongside meats, dairy, and produce to support daily meal needs for families.
Employees prepare, cook, mix, bake, assemble, and decorate pastries using flour, eggs, sugar, and ovens to produce items like cakes and danishes. They store ingredients in coolers and freezers, communicate with store directors and bakery managers, and follow recipes for yield control. A challenge includes lifting up to 50 pounds for unloading deliveries in a hot, sticky, or wet area.
Compensation ranges from $15.00 to $19.23 per hour. Full-time hours in a bakery department with weekends, evenings, and holidays required. Benefits include health insurance, retirement options, and paid time off after qualification.
Responsibilities
- Ensure quality and freshness of all bakery products
- Maintain appropriate product assortment and inventory levels
- Confirm pricing accuracy and signage for products
- Ensure bakery is cleaned and sanitized daily
- Prepare, cook, bake, assemble, and decorate pastries
- Communicate with Store Director and Bakery Manager
- Assist with other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- One year of bakery experience preferred
- Current Food Handler’s Permit
- Ability to read and follow recipes
- Basic math skills for halfing or doubling recipes
- Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
