Job Description

This role designs architectures for federal weather systems like NOAA AWIPS and DoD platforms, ensuring compliance and integration for resilient forecasting. Architects solve technical challenges by balancing security and performance, aiding organizations like Fortune 500 companies. The position supports federal missions by adapting commercial tools to classified and unclassified deployments.

Architects design end-to-end systems including diagrams, data flows, integrations, and security controls for FedRAMP and RMF compliance. They engage with integrators like SAIC and Leidos, translate requirements, and bridge engineering teams. Work involves leading ATO processes, audits, and adapting products to constraints. Independence is key, with hands-on contributions without management.

This is a part-time independent contractor role with anticipated salary range subject to skills and location. Location preference is Washington DC, remote within US considered. Responsibilities

  • Design and document end-to-end architectures for NOAA AWIPS, DoD weather systems
  • Define technical approaches aligned with FedRAMP, RMF, FISMA, ITAR, CUI, DoD IL5/IL6
  • Serve in ATO processes, audits, security reviews
  • Engage with system integrators and government teams
  • Translate requirements into deployable architectures
  • Work with engineering teams to adapt platforms
  • Provide technical input for RFIs, RFPs

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen
  • U.S. based
  • Active or eligible TS/SCI clearance
  • Proven experience architecting systems in federal civilian or DoD environments
  • Strong background in cloud infrastructure, data platforms, APIs, operational systems
  • Hands-on experience with FedRAMP, RMF, FISMA, ITAR, CUI, DoD IL5/IL6
  • Ability to design for performance, security, regulatory rigor
  • Prior experience supporting DoD and federal civilian systems
