Job Description

This role assembles optical connector components in fiber optics manufacturing, focusing on termination of LC and ST configurations for 8,000 units weekly in connectivity products. Assembly uses epoxy bonding with routers, performs testing with Optical Power Meters at 400 tests per hour, and completes over-molding for durable cables. The position sets up test stations with DMM and Variable Attenuators, inspecting with gages to meet workmanship standards.

Operators polish cables with precision tools, troubleshoot coating equipment issues, and train staff on SAP systems quarterly. A key challenge is minimizing contamination in clean rooms, requiring gowning with nitrile gloves and hair nets while operating machinery for 75% stationary time.

Compensation provides hourly rate of $24.28, adjustable by location, with 10% evening differential and 22% weekend premium from 6:13 start. Shifts include Monday to Friday 7 AM to 3:30 PM, 3 PM to 11:30 PM, or Friday to Sunday 7 AM to 7:30 PM. Responsibilities

  • Polish and test fiber optic cables
  • Assemble and package fiber optic connector components
  • Operate fiber router and coating equipment as needed
  • Complete over-molding processes as needed
  • Support prototype and NPI builds
  • Measure components using calipers, gages, or measuring devices
  • Complete operational paperwork for traceability
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to equipment
  • Demonstrate cleaning methods and contamination assessment for optical assembly
  • Terminate various standard and new fiber optic termini
  • Perform IL and RL testing of cable assemblies
  • Perform EFG and IPC checks on single and multi-fiber termini
  • Operate equipment with E-Stop and Soft Stop, identify and resolve issues
  • Assist in estimation process for step durations
  • Assist in setting up new manufacturing processes
  • Suggest process changes to improve efficiencies
  • Communicate within team atmosphere for customer satisfaction
  • Train new and existing team members on products, processes, and procedures
  • Inspect work using quality standards, instructions, and prints
  • Work in clean room environment wearing gown, booties, hair net, gloves, glasses, and shoes
  • Available for overtime to support production goals

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum 2 years manufacturing experience required
  • Minimum 1 year fiber optic manufacturing experience required
  • SAP Manufacturing and ISO 9001 experience preferred
  • Proficient motor skills for intricate work
  • Working knowledge of hand tools and blueprint reading preferred
  • Ability to work with small parts in clean room using microscope
  • Good time management for multiple projects
  • Experience using Oscilloscope, DMM, Variable Power Supplies preferred
  • Excel skills to record and analyze data preferred
  • Some post high school technical courses preferred
  • Familiarity of AutoCAD preferred
  • Ability to move 50 pounds and operate machinery
  • Proficiency in written English instructions
