The role supervises staff, resolves issues, and negotiates with contractors, maintaining safety and reporting progress. This supports the city's infrastructure needs across the five boroughs.

The City of New York directs the NYC Department of Design and Construction, handling public buildings division projects valued at various scales. They oversee conception to completion, utilizing tools like design-build and CM-Build for quality and efficiency. Specializes in managing portfolio risks and mandates for resiliency in aging infrastructure.

Key tasks include reviewing project scopes with sponsors, developing cost estimates and schedules, directing design and construction teams, processing change orders, and overseeing contractor performance. Work requires monitoring safety protocols and generating reports. Interactions involve program directors, vendors, and project staff. One challenge is supervising multiple managers while navigating new delivery methods like progressive design-build.

Requirements

  • Permanent in Associate Project Manager title or reachable on exams #3573, #3110
  • Minimum qualifications for Assignment Level I including one or two additional years in supervisory capacity
  • Baccalaureate in specified fields plus experience
  • High school diploma plus experience or equivalents
