Job Description
The Direct Support Professional supports individuals with disabilities at MacDonald Training Center, facilitating independence through training in home living and community safety. Activities include leading group sessions, tracking progress, and providing personal care like mealtime assistance. Floors get organized with supplies for learning and outings.
MacDonald Training Center empowers people with disabilities to enhance quality of life, offering day programs through compassionate care and community inclusion. The center focuses on person-centered models with about 75 staff.
Tasks involve documenting attendance, cleaning environments, and supervising hygiene. Driving client routes requires a valid license, with interactions including staff and program managers. A challenge includes lifting or moving up to necessary weights to assist participants safely.
Paid at $15.25 per hour on-site in Tampa. Monday through Friday schedule varies. Benefits include a supportive team environment, professional development, and competitive packages. Requires age 18 or older, high school diploma, and passing background checks.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate training in home living, employment readiness, and community safety
- Track and document attendance, progress, and services received to ensure compliance
- Lead engaging group activities and individualized learning experiences
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment
- Provide supervision, personal care, and assistance with hygiene, toileting, and mealtime needs
- Assist with community outings and program setup
- Communicate any concerns or changes in health, behavior, or progress to Program Manager or Coordinators
- Communicate any health and safety, client, or programmatic needs including all required supplies or equipment required to promote health and safety and implementation of training programs
- Driving a client route or being a back-up driver is required
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of experience working with adults with disabilities (preferred: 2 years)
- An associate or bachelor's degree may substitute for direct experience
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Strong verbal communication skills, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Knowledge of developmental disabilities and person-centered service models
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and email
- Must pass a Level II background check, drug screening, and FDOT/MVR check
