Traffic control technicians ensure safe flow around work zones, preventing accidents for crews, drivers, and the public on infrastructure projects. The job involves leading crews to set up, maintain, and remove devices like signs and barricades. This protects lives during energy, broadband, and transportation upgrades, including major events.

Technicians lead small crews, communicating for safe efficient operations, and monitor zones for compliance with regulations. They inspect placements of signs, barricades, and closures, provide service protection, and enforce safety practices. Expertise in setup/design and professional flagging is built on-site. Tools include traffic control equipment and blueprints for designs.

Pay starts at $19.50 to $21 hourly with overtime, increasing with experience; training covers ATSSA certification and defensive driving. Benefits include health, dental, vision from hire date, PTO, 7 holidays, 401(k) after 90 days. Physical demands: lift 60 pounds, stand 8-12 hours in weather, wear protective boots, handle traffic/exposure/noise. Safety-sensitive with drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small crew in planning and executing traffic control operations
  • Communicate with team for safe efficient zones
  • Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices
  • Monitor work zones for safe traffic flow and proper closures
  • Inspect for proper placement of signs, barricades, compliance
  • Provide outstanding service and protection to customers/public
  • Protect against losses, injuries, accidents through safety enforcement
  • Become expert in work zone setup/design and professional flagging

Requirements

  • 1-2+ years outdoor safety experience in military, construction, utilities, road maintenance, heavy equipment
  • Experience leading small crews, enforcing safety, interacting with customers
  • Minimum 1 year driving experience
  • Able to read/interpret blueprints preferred
  • OSHA 10/30 preferred
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Ability to pass drug test
