This position coordinates construction activities for natural gas smart meter projects, ensuring teams meet schedule and budget goals while constructing meters that provide accurate monitoring technology for utility companies. Communities benefit from reliable gas distribution systems that prevent outages and improve safety through these advanced smart meters, solving issues with traditional non-digital tracking methods.
Orbital Engineering supports industry and infrastructure through engineering, inspection, and construction services for more than 50 years, helping clients solve complex problems with an emphasis on relationships and excellence.
Coordinators plan and review construction drawings, inspect sites to confirm permits and safety plans, manage project progress through daily reports, handle material orders and deliveries, resolve queries from crews and engineers, conduct safety audits, track utility locates, and maintain redline drawings. Work involves using software like Microsoft Office and Adobe, climbing ladders up to 50 pounds, and communicating with site personnel, such as construction supervisors and Orbital supervisors.
The role offers travel reimbursement and requires a valid driver's license for site visits. Responsibilities
- Provide safety oversight and report compliance issues
- Participate in construction planning and pre-construction reviews
- Inspect construction sites and complete checklists
- Ensure permits, plans, and postings are in place
- Inspect work for compliance with specifications and drawings
- Manage communication with crews, managers, and engineers
- Manage material and equipment needs and deliveries
- Prepare daily logs tracking progress, deficiencies, and incidents
- Perform audits, maintain drawings, and handle scope changes
- Confirm utility locates and sign crew timesheets
- Climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years relevant construction or maintenance experience
- Ability to pass post-offer drug and alcohol tests
- Familiarity with natural gas transmission or distribution
- Experience in commercial or industrial construction
- OSHA 10 hour training
- Background in structural, mechanical, or electrical construction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Competence in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe
- Organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
- Ability to work in groups and manage tasks
- Willingness to travel as needed
- Valid driver's license and personal vehicle
