This internship exposes engineering students to real project management in electrical supplies, building skills for future roles. Interns track project milestones, support budgeting for utility and renewable scopes, and use SAP and Salesforce to manage data. Their work helps prevent delays in construction and industrial projects by enhancing processes like total customer cost management.

Border States distributes electrical supplies to utility, construction, and industrial sectors, operating approximately 130 locations across 31 states. As a 100% employee-owned company, it empowers owners with decision-making roles in product distribution.

Interns collaborate with project managers on scheduling and risk tracking, lead application of project management processes, and document using tools like Sharepoint and SAP. They assist in quoting, researching product data, and participating in customer site activities like crib crawls. Interactions involve departments like engineering and sales, attending events and trainings. Work includes desk tasks with computer use, occasional travel to sites. One constraint is a requirement for frequent standing and walking, alongside continuous computer and desk work.

Hourly pay ranges from $16.00 to $23.00 based on experience, with work in Albertville, Minnesota. Full-time internship with flexible hours depending on projects. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Project Manager team to track and update project milestones, deliverables, and risks within Grid Solutions portfolio
  • Gain understanding of Utility and Renewable scopes, material and system integration
  • Lead application of fundamental project management processes for scheduling, budgeting, resource planning
  • Assist in creating and maintaining project documentation including estimates, material submittals, meeting minutes, status reports, action item trackers
  • Assist with creating quotes in SAP
  • Assist with documenting opportunities in Salesforce
  • Work on day-to-day projects including process improvement, project management, data support, reporting, documentation
  • Collaborate with various departments throughout company
  • Build relationships through meetings, events, one-on-ones with key leadership and employees
  • Assist with putting together Office/Engineer Trainings and participate in presentation
  • Research and gather product data including description, specifications, photos for BSE E-Commerce site
  • Assist with metering on the back side
  • Assist with Total Customer Cost Management process by gathering and entering data such as cost savings into Sharepoint
  • Participate in on-site customer projects including part identification (Crib Crawl) and customer part number identification
  • Travel with Application Engineers to customer sites for meetings or training
  • Assist with events, shows, conferences
  • Travel with Application Engineers to customer events
  • Work on professional development through trainings, group projects, community involvement

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS/BA Degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Mechanical
  • Students must have completed their junior year
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Strong knowledge of business office procedures preferred
  • Strong knowledge of office equipment operation preferred
  • Strong knowledge of data entry/keyboarding skills preferred
  • Strong knowledge of communication systems preferred
  • Prefer strong knowledge of PC for Windows and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint)
