Job Description
The cook prepares and serves food for residents ensuring proper temperatures and attractive presentation using safe handling techniques. This role reviews menus, utilizes recipes for therapeutic diets, and maintains compliance, improving nutritional outcomes for elderly and rehabilitating patients.

Cooks review menus, prepare meals for diets and special events, make authorized changes, ensure taste and temperature compliance, file menus, and assign tasks. They use math for quantities, communicate effectively, and handle kinetic tasks in healthcare settings, with preferences for high school diplomas and six months' large quantity experience.
Starting wage is $18.85 to $21.25 per hour, including $0.85 Michigan Direct Care Incentive and $2 Perfect Attendance Bonus. Responsibilities
- Review menus prior to preparation
- Prepare food for regular and therapeutic diets
- Prepare alternative items for individual needs and preferences
- Prepare and portion food with proper handling
- Prepare in accordance with sanitary regulations
- Make only authorized menu changes and record them
- Ensure food tastes good and served at appropriate temperature attractively
- Ensure menus maintained and filed
- Utilize standardized recipes
- Perform other tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum tenth grade
- GED or High School Diploma preferred
- ServSafe Food Safety Certification or state-required preferred
- Six months experience in large quantity food preparation
- Experience with therapeutic diet preparation preferred
