Job Description

Patients in emergency departments benefit from technicians who provide initial care and support during critical treatments. Emergency department technicians draw blood samples, insert IVs and catheters, and use state-of-the-art equipment to assist providers. They record details in electronic medical records while responding to codes and observing for behavioral health issues.

Typical activities include communicating with providers, nurses, patients, families, and caregivers about treatment plans. Technicians utilize equipment for blood draws, IVs, and catheter placements in a fast-paced Level 1 Trauma Center environment. They follow emergency protocols, document in the Electronic Medical Record, and assist during pages or codes. Interactions involve multidisciplinary teams, with a challenge incorporating ACLS and PALS training into shift rotations including weekend work.

Employed on a part-time 90% FTE schedule with evening/night shifts between 7:00pm and 7:30am, including weekend rotation. Responsibilities

  • Provide compassionate care to patients in the Emergency Department
  • Assist with taking blood samples and getting IVs and catheters started
  • Communicate directly with providers, nurses, patients, patients families, and other caregivers
  • Record information in the Electronic Medical Record
  • Respond to pages/codes and assist as directed
  • Act as an observer for behavior health complaints

Requirements

  • Completion of EMT-Basic Required
  • Completion of AEMT or Paramedic program Preferred
  • Relevant experience in Emergency Departments, hospitals, or other healthcare entities including EMS Preferred
  • EMT - Basic license or National Registry of EMT Required
  • CPR/BLS certification Required
  • National Registry or Wisconsin Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic license Preferred
  • ACLS and PALS certification Preferred
