Job Description
Farm workers support Cobb's poultry operations by vaccinating grandparent chickens, performing blood pulls, moving pullets, and handling products throughout the farm. Cobb Grandparent operation relies on these tasks to maintain healthy flocks and prepare chickens for processing. Caregivers ensure animal welfare through thorough biosecurity measures, including showering, changing clothing with provided footwear, and avoiding jewelry or piercings.
Cobb, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, specializes in poultry reproduction and rearing services. Veterinary support and agricultural advancements drive their focus on disease prevention and productivity. Founded as a Cobb-Vantress joint venture, they operate globally with operations in over 100 countries.
Daily work involves vaccination using needles, pulling blood samples for testing, moving pullets in up to 125-pound boxes, and operating high-pressure hoses to maintain clean areas. Employees clean vehicles, disinfect surfaces with phenolic-based products, and handle a macerator for specific duties. Physical demands include lifting up to 100 pounds, standing on concrete floors for shifts, driving vehicles, and using tools like vaccination needles. Workers must follow protocols for safe lifting and wear safety glasses, goggles, aprons, boots, and gloves for chemical handling.
Starting wage for this position is $18.00 per hour, with additional differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends. Work occurs Monday through Friday starting at 5:00 a.m., averaging 40 hours per week, subject to production changes. Responsibilities
- Vaccinate grandparent chickens using vaccination needles
- Perform blood pulls for health monitoring
- Move pullets in boxes weighing up to 125 pounds
- Operate high-pressure and regular water hoses
- Maintain foot pans and hand sanitizer stations
- Clean and disinfect Cobb vehicles
- Operate macerator for eggs and boxes
- Pack and unpack eggs
- Wash and pad boxes
- Handle chickens for grading, vaccination, beak treatment, dubbing, and toe trimming with toe trimming machine and robot
