Job Description

Partners conduct investigations into allegations of employment legal violations to identify issues, report, and resolve them promptly. They provide advice to managers and HR Business Partners on policy application in high-risk scenarios. Partners research employment laws, conduct risk assessments, and lead audits for compliance. Roles involve drafting HR policies, guiding on HR tools, templates, and processes aligned with Waymo's values.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology as the project's originator from 2009. The company builds the Waymo Driver to improve mobility accessibility and reduce traffic crashes. Waymo Driver powers ride-hail services and applies to vehicle platforms, having provided over 10 million rider-only trips. Operations cover over 100 million public road miles and tens of billions in simulation across 15 U.S. states. Legal team advises on policy, safety, security, privacy issues, managing transactions and compliance globally.

Partners report to the Senior Counsel, Head of Employment Legal on compliance issues. They interpret laws amid dynamic global regulations and rectify non-compliance gaps. Partners manage investigations with access to investigation reports for allegations. High-risk advice integrates policies correctly for issues. They track laws periodically through assessments and internal audits of HR functions. Human and AI outputs undergo quality controls with meta-checks. Validation of vendor work involves feedback for human and model improvement.

The base salary range is $190,000 to $241,000 USD. Total compensation includes discretionary annual bonus, equity incentive plan, and generous benefits. Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations involving allegations of policy and/or employment legal violations
  • Provide expert advice and counsel to managers and HR Business Partners on policy application in risk areas
  • Proactively research, interpret, and track applicable employment laws
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments and internal audits of HR functions
  • Draft and manage HR policies, and provide expert guidance on HR tools, templates and processes
  • Ensure compliance with global regulations

Requirements

  • At least five (5) years of experience investigating complex employee relations issues and/or advising on complex employee relations issues as a licensed attorney
  • Excellent oral and writing skills and experience writing investigation reports
  • Experience working on employee relations or employment law matters in both a startup and large company environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust and influence at all levels
  • Able to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities independently and keep current with workload
  • Experience developing and managing a HR compliance program
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) with at least 3 years of experience practicing employment law preferred
  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or advanced degree in Human Resources preferred
  • Experience working in a mid- to late-startup technology company preferred
